A wildfire that sparked near Ross in Palo Pinto County erupted Monday afternoon and has grown to at least 50,000 acres with 8% containment as of Tuesday, forcing evacuations in neighboring Jack County and affecting local schools. Damage to three or four structures has been reported with more at risk. The fire also caused catastrophic damage at Worth Ranch scouting camp buildings. Jacksboro ISD delayed start by two hours while Perrin CISD canceled classes. Texas A&M Forest Service and TIFMAS are supporting firefighting. Dry vegetation, over a month without rainfall, and gusty winds are driving the rapid spread.
