Wildfires broke out in Spokane County, Washington on August 1, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate. Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide wildfire emergency and issued restrictions on most outdoor burning and agricultural fires. According to US media, by August 2 the Eastern Washington fires had burned about 600 structures and forced about 60,000 people to evacuate, with more than 5,000 homes threatened. A heat dome continues to affect the US West Coast as multiple fires burn across the region.
